MDI Ansonica is a bold, expressive take on a rare Italian white grape transplanted to Victoria. It balances freshness and aromatics with texture and character. Ansonica (also known internationally as Inzolia) originates from Sicily / coastal Italy, and is commonly valued for its citrus, stone-fruit, herb and saline notes. In the MDI version, the extended skin maceration leans into its phenolic and textural potential: the wine gains a subtle waxy/orange-skin grip and a gentle tannic frame uncommon in standard whites.

If you enjoy wines that aren’t timid; wines with personality, texture and a bit of edge, MDI Ansonica hits the spot. It’s aromatic and crisp enough for seafood or late afternoons, but textured and complex enough to stand up to richer fare or slower sipping. For fans of Mediterranean whites, natural wine lovers, or anyone looking for something a little off-beat but delicious, it’s a compelling pick.

Location: Murray-Darling / Mildura region, Victoria, Australia
Winemaking / Farming techniques: Hand-harvested Ansonica grapes, wild-yeast fermented. For the 2023 release, grapes spent ~16–17 days on skins before pressing to tank, then matured in a mix of large and small format seasoned French oak. Unfined, unfiltered, minimal intervention, natural-wine style.
Style / Body: Light-to-medium-bodied with a skinsy texture, aromatic depth, and a bright-but-balanced acid backbone.
Notes: White peach or yellow apple, lemon/lime zest, a gentle waxy/orange-skin textural grip (thanks to skin contact), a light bitter-almond or nutty edge, subtle saline or mineral lift, finishing dry and slightly savoury.
Descriptors: Mandarin zest · White blossom · Citrus · Peach / pear skin · Waxy / orange-skin texture · Nutty-almond note · Saline/mineral touch · Fresh acidity · Dry finish
Pairing Suggestions: Works beautifully with oysters or other shellfish, grilled seafood, sashimi, herb-rich vegetable dishes, Mediterranean-style salads, or dishes with olive oil, lemon & herbs. Also great with soft cheeses or as a contemplative solo glass.
