2022 Quealy ‘Turbul’ Friulano is a perfect example of how Tom McCarthy continues to push boundaries in Australian winemaking. He's been a champion of Italian varieties in Victoria for years, and this skin-contact Friulano is full of personality. Think ripe pear, citrus peel, and a little almond nuttiness, with a beautifully grippy texture that gives it real presence.

Location: Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia
Winemaking / Farming Techniques: Crafted by Tom McCarthy, this wine is produced from the estate's ripest Friulano grapes. The grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation on skins in 800-liter terracotta amphorae, spending 103 days on skins without added sulfur dioxide, with daily stirring. After fermentation, the wine is basket-pressed into used French oak barrels for maturation.
Style/Body: Medium-bodied with a sleek and creamy texture, complemented by natural phenolics and balanced acidity.
Notes: The wine exhibits aromas and flavors of almonds, honey, cardamom, parsley root, and lemon rind. It also presents notes of pineapple, peach fuzz, dried pear, quince paste, and a touch of nuttiness and salted plums.
Descriptors: Almonds, honey, cardamom, parsley root, lemon rind, pineapple, peach fuzz, dried pear, quince paste, nuttiness, salted plums.
Pairing Suggestions: This versatile wine pairs well with dishes featuring rich flavors and creamy textures, such as roasted poultry, pork dishes, or creamy risottos. Its balanced acidity and phenolic structure also make it a suitable companion for aged cheeses like Cheddar and Gruyere.
